Bottom Line

Leonardine Gardens Apartments in South River, NJ is a convenient spot with access to major highways and shopping. This is a great spot if you want an easy ride to Rutgers or weekend getaway to the NJ shore. Route 18 does get congested on a regular basis but usually moves. This community was built in 1970 so expect to make regular calls for maintenance.

Lifestyles:

COST

On the high side– we checked a handful of other apartment communities in this immediate area and found that a one bedroom from Leonardine Gardens is priced at the high end of the range. However these South River apartments are among the largest around so the price per square foot is right in line with other options.

Some utilities may be included in the rent so be sure to consider that when comparing properties.

There is a reasonable application fee.

LOCATION

Very convenient address – one unusual aspect of this community is that it is buried within a stable residential neighborhood close to a park. So you will have quiet surroundings, with limited traffic.

Drive a short distance west and you can be on Route 18 where you will find the Brunswick Square Mall and endless shopping opportunities.

This site is only a short commute to New Brunswick or to an entrance for the NJ Turnpike.

CONVENIENCES

Laundry facilities onsite – you will need to set time aside each week to haul your laundry to one of the clothes care centers onsite.

PETS

Pets welcome both dogs and cats are allowed with some restrictions. Leonardine Gardens does have a fenced-in dog park. The pet fees and rent here are very reasonable compared to other areas.

This property is not far from the East Brunswick Animal Hospital and a few miles from Pet Smart on Route 18.

LEISURE

Limited activities– there are no onsite amenities for your entertainment at Leonardine Gardens witch is in line with some of the other properties in the area.

Fortunately renters can walk to nearby Edward A. Grekoski Park where you can find a playground, barbeque grills, a multi-purpose sports court and a lighted ball field.

Look for an 18-screen AMC movie cinema at the mall.

REVIEWS (from elsewhere)

Mixed– we took the time to go through 54 reviews of the Leonardine Gardens apartments so you won’t have to. One of the top themes of these reviews was that the apartments had thin walls so you can sometimes hear your neighbors. Although some brushed this off as standard for most apartment living.

Another concern renters voiced was issues with the temperature controls. Others were disappointed with snow removal and barking dogs.

Some residents stressed that this was a quiet neighborhood that was clean and the property was well-maintained. Comments include: it is nice looking and no bugs.
