As a gateway to the Niagara Falls, Grand Island is an island within the Niagara River which has I-190, the Niagara Thruway passing through it. This location is only a few miles north of Buffalo NY and south of the city of Niagara. The area is filled with waterside restaurants, marina’s and boat rental places, as well as several top notch recreation areas.
Buckhorn Island State Park offers nearly 900 acres of preserved space where you can hike on nature trails, mountain bike, kayak, canoe, fish and cross-country ski. The 950 acre Beaver Island State Park has a half-mile sandy beach for swimming, nature trails, horse shoe pits and disc golf course providing lots of opportunities to get outside and have some fun. Martin's Fantasy Island has rides, live shows and a waterpark with slides, a wave pool and lazy river.
You will find a Topps Friendly Markets food store, several restaurants and other businesses along Grand Island Boulevard. There are several public transit bus stops on the major roads that will take you to Buffalo or Niagara.
If you look along Grand Island Boulevard you will also find a bunch of apartment communities. You may find an occasional home rental, but don’t expect too many.
