Sioux Falls in the eastern part of the state is the largest city in South Dakota, with a population of about 160,000 residents. The metropolitan area surrounding Rapid City, located closer to the western border is home to about 125,000.

Ellsworth Air Force Base, close to Rapid City, is the second-largest single employer in the state. University of South Dakota in Vermillion is the state’s largest and one reason for many renters in the state.
One other major contributor to the economy of South Dakota is tourism. Thousands of visitor come to the state each year to visit national parks such as Mount Rushmore National Memorial which depicts the image of four US presidents carved into the mountainside. The Badlands National Park features an amazing view of eroded landscape. Another popular destination that you may want to visit after moving here is the Wind Cave National Park in Black Hills where you can explore the extensive cave network.
