Renter's Insurance Responsibility

Isn't Renter Insurance my Landlords responsibility?

Typically, a landlord's insurance will only cover the building. Your personal possessions such as furniture or electronic equipment are not owned by the landlord and will not likely be covered under their policy.

If an accident happens on the premises as a result of the landlords neglect, then it is possible that the landlord's liability insurance should cover it. However, if the accident occurred because of your neglect, then you may be responsible. For example, if you leave the water running and it overflows to the apartment below you causing damage.

A landlord's policy is there to protect the landlord. Renters insurance is there to protect the renter.
