Meeting the Landlord

Meeting the landlord is a very good idea if your daughter or son is living off campus for the first time. It shows the landlord that your are interested and involved in the student's affairs, and will be there to help them if needed. You can also give things a different perspective and ask questions that a student would not tend to care about.

A good time to meet the landlord is during the lease review. You should have ample time to ask questions and learn a little about the landlords rules. If you are at the rental property, you can also inspect the premis and point out areas that need repairs or maintenance.

If there is no formal review process or if you live far away, take a few minutes to speak with the landlord on the phone to show your interest. The landlord will usually show a little extra attention to the tenants if they know parents monitoring their activities.
