If you drive about 33 miles along Interstate 20, directly west of Atlanta you will reach the city of Villa Rica. This is a quiet residential community with lots of history including the beginnings of the Georgia Gold Rush. You can visit the Pine Mountain Gold Museum in the northeast corner of Villa Rica and walk the traisl where miners panned for gold.

If you like fishing, try your luck at Lamar Moody Park where you can cast your line into the stocked eight acre pond. The community hosts events at The Mill amphitheater. The annual Gold Rush Festival takes place the Saturday after Labor Day and promises an afternoon filled with food, fun, crafts, a 5k road race, and the best local Bluegrass music around.

While renting an apartment in Villa Rica, you can take a short car ride east to Sweetwater Creek State Park where there are lots of trails, scenic lookouts and you can rent a canoe or paddle boat to explore the 215 acre reservoir.
