Whiton Hills at Branchburg is located off a fairly busy state highway with mostly single family homes in the immediate neighborhood. Residents here generally travel north for work with many large pharmaceutical companies such as such as Johnson & Johnson’ Ortho McNeil campus, Roche Molecular Systems, Sanofi Aventis, ImClone, and LifeCell just a short drive up the highway. This site is also within easy reach of other corporate centers in Bridgewater, Piscataway area, Somerset and New Brunswick.

Location

Positioned on the Branchburg/Readington border, the Whiton Hills apartments are on the edge of lots of open farm land, with residential neighborhoods and some large parks. Kids will get to go to very good Branchburg schools. Most of the people who live here will work in one of several towns just to the north that are filled with large corporations. To get there, residents will typically go out the back entrance of the community on Old York Road to Whiton Road so that you can access US Highway 22 North. You can stop in at the Dunkin’ Donuts 3-miles north here for a morning coffee and tasty treat. There is no drive thru but service is quick.

On the way there you will pass lots of great retail options such as the Somerset Shopping Center, host to Pier 1 Imports, Modell’s Sporting Goods and Men’s Warehouse with Toys R Us and Staples on the opposite side of the street. Residents of Whiton Hills at Branchburg can get grocery shopping done minutes from home at Wegman’s. This is an upscale grocery buy you can find many great deals, particularly with Wegman’s own brand products. They also have a full liquor store with loads of wine.

If you make your way south to Flemington there are a host of other shops including Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Shop Rite and Burlington Coat Factory. A huge draw to the Flemington area is the Liberty Village Premium Outlets where you can get great deals on many big name brand clothes and accessories. For renters with little kids, there are great deals on sneakers at Stride Rite.

Dining

Within a couple of minutes you can get to a couple of great Italian eateries, Phil’s Pizza & Subs and Alfonso’s 202 where you should find all the basics for a quick and rewarding meal. Heading north there are some decent local restaurants serving a lot of the business crowd such as Spain 92 (think paella & sangria). As you approach the Somerville Circle there is Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, Panera Bread and TGI Friday’s offering a nice selection of chain restaurants. For a special meal, one place you might want to check out in Flemington is Matt’s Red Rooster Grill, an establishment voted highly by Open Table.

Recreation

If you move to these apartments with a family, there is a good selection of things to do starting with regular visits to the Northlandz train museum where you can view an incredible collection of toy trails chugging through a landscaped setting. Aspen Ice is a fun place to go on Friday nights for open skating or you can join a hockey league. Nearby Duke Island Park is a great place to go for a run or bike ride on a paved pathway. The Bridgewater Sports Complex has all kinds of athletic activities along with laser tag and an arcade. It is a popular spot to have a birthday party for the elementary school bunch. Within the mall there is a 7-screen AMC movie cinema where you can have a full meal served to you while watching the latest films.

Transportation

When you move to Whiton Hills, you should plan to have a car to get around. There is not much within walking distance and there are no bus stops in the area. Renters here have access to US Highway 202 which can lead you to I-287, US 22 and I-78 – several major thoroughfares in the center of the state. 202 can get a bit crowed, but it moves. You will have an option to catch a NJ Transit train to Newark Penn Station or New York Penn Station from the Raritan stop just 7 miles from this site. There is a large parking lot at the station where you can leave your car, but get there early to make sure to get a spot.
