More about Iowa
You may visualize Iowa as a place where lots of corn is grown. Well that would be correct as the state is a large agricultural producer with much of the corn being used in the production of ethanol fuel. Manufacturing of food products is the industry where most residents are employed. Many students live and rent in the state to attend the University of Iowa in Iowa City and Iowa State University. Des Moines is the state’s largest city and where you will find the capital.
If you are renting with kids, they will have many things to do throughout Iowa such as Adventureland Theme Park in Altoona with more than 100 rides, shows and attractions, including several fun roller coasters. The Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines boasts a 22-acre park full of more than 800 animals from five different continents. The Lost Island Theme Park in Waterloo and the Iowa Children's Museum in Coralville are also popular attractions.
Families will enjoy afternoons away from their apartment to visit the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Battle Hill Museum of Natural History in Battle Creek, or the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque.
Other attractions around Iowa include the Science Station in Cedar Rapid with over 130 interactive exhibits and the Edinburgh "Ghost Town" and Museum in Scotch Grove where you can explore a preserved ghost town. If you are planning on renting in Madison County be sure to visit the Covered Bridges.
